DPS MIS :The Champion Debaters (Qatar Debate)

Three years back we at DPSMIS made humble beginnings at Qatar debate the national debating organization of Qatar with a team of 3 debaters. However today after having blazed a trail of victories we can proudly boast of being the top ranked debating school in Qatar, with a strong contingent of 40 debaters, whose only competition in Qatar is itself.

The fact that the school’s success at debating is not a one off event but a consistent string of victories, itself proves that a great deal of effort, planning and sustained training is provided tour students.

The key highlights of the debating activity at DPSMIS are a teaching-learning strategy that focuses on critical thinking and analytical skills while fostering teamwork and excellent communication. Debating has proved to be an effective tool for the active involvement of students in developing various competencies like researching current issues, preparing logical arguments, active listening, appreciating diversity of opinions and perspectives and then integrating information to form opinions based on evidence and facts not belief or preference.

Since DPSMIS encourages its students to look at issues from multiple points of views we believe it can be a powerful way to effect social change, which is the very purpose of any educational activity. Our young minds are actively engaged in sifting facts and understanding implications.

In a bid to expand the program and give exposure to as many students as possible we introduce 5-6 new faces for every tournament. Thus we can legimately take pride in the fact that the instructional strategy at DPSMIS is paying rich dividends in terms of developing our young men and women into intelligent conversationalists who can reckon with the best at any forum be it national or international.

The crowning glory of our achievements, apart from at least 5 league wins so far has been the 2nd and 3rd  best team positions at the Qatar National debating championships in April 2011 with Soundarya Krishnan being ranked 2nd among the top 10 debaters in Qatar.

Omar Sultan, Abhilasha Saini, Afreen Rahman, Eman Zabi, Shruti Srinivasan are our other star debaters.
